Welcome to the Newton Centre Minyan!

Founded in 1973, the Newton Centre Minyan is a strong and vibrant community dedicated to prayer, learning, love of Judaism and Israel, tzedakah, friendship, and mutual support. We are multi-generational, LGBTQ-inclusive, and highly participatory. We join together to worship and celebrate Shabbat, holidays, and life-cycle events.

We meet at the top of Newton Centre on the lovely campus of Hebrew College (160 Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA 02459). There’s plenty of parking, and Hebrew College is handicap-accessible.

Religious practice

We meet at 9:30 am for services every Shabbat morning and major Jewish holidays. Our services are traditional, egalitarian, lay-led, and self-organized. In addition to our main service, we also have a variety of services that are geared towards families and children.

More about our services

Minyan members come together to share life's joys and challenges by

  • Providing meals to families who have a new baby
  • Cooking for each other's bar and bat mitzvah luncheons
  • Assisting members who are ill
  • Making sure everyone has Passover seders to go to.
  • Supporting mourners through Tuesday morning davening, shiva minyanim, and meals.

We also have fun together:

  • Regular “Nosh ‘n Drosh” learning/discussion lunches
  • A lulav-making workshop
  • A Sukkot potluck
  • An annual winter retreat
  • Social events like Music Night and Minyan Moth night.
  • Simchat Torah and Purim really rock at the Minyan, and you won't hear more interesting (or varied) divrei Torah anywhere.
