Welcome to the Newton Centre Minyan!

Founded in 1973, the Newton Centre Minyan is a strong, vibrant, and independent lay-led community of around 200 households dedicated to prayer, learning, love of Judaism and Israel, tzedakah, friendship, and mutual support. We are multi-generational, LGBTQ-inclusive, and highly participatory. We join together to worship and celebrate Shabbat, holidays, and life-cycle events.

Since Hebrew College (160 Herrick Road, Newton Centre, MA) is relocating, our tenure there will come to an end after the chagim (Jewish holidays) this fall. As of October, 2021, we will be launching two new lay-led minyanim of approximately equal size. One minyan (Minyan Ma’or) will be joining Temple Emanuel while still running its own services and maintaining its distinct identity as a davening community. The other minyan (Centre Street Minyan) will be fully independent, renting space in Newton Centre. We expect there to be continued connection between the two new minyanim.

We presently welcome visitors to both our in-person and our Zoom services (contact membership@newtoncentreminyan.org for Zoom info). You are welcome to join in person at any Shabbat at Hebrew College. As of July 10, services have returned to their full length (start time at 9:30 am). Our services are traditional, egalitarian, lay-led, and self-organized.

Please come visit us! If you have questions about the Newton Centre Minyan or would like to inform us ahead of time that you’ll be joining us, please contact membership@newtoncentreminyan.org.
