Welcome to the Newton Centre Minyan, now Walnut Street Minyan and Minyan Ma’or!

Founded in 1973, the Newton Centre Minyan was a strong, vibrant, and independent lay-led community of around 200 households dedicated to prayer, learning, love of Judaism and Israel, tzedakah, friendship, and mutual support. We were multi-generational, LGBTQ-inclusive, and highly participatory. We joined together to worship and celebrate Shabbat, holidays, and life-cycle events.

As of October, 2021, we are blessed to have launched two new lay-led minyanim of approximately equal size. One minyan (Minyan Ma’or) joined Temple Emanuel while still independently running its own services and maintaining its distinct identity as a davening community. The other minyan (Walnut Street Minyan) is fully independent, currently renting space from Hebrew College in Newton Centre. The two minyanim, while independent, continue to feel deeply connected and are looking forward to numerous shared activities.

We presently welcome visitors to both our in-person and our Zoom services. You are welcome to join in person at any Shabbat at Hebrew College or Temple Emanuel. Please come visit us!
