Who We Are
The Newton Centre Minyan, founded in 1973, is an egalitarian, highly
participatory, liturgically traditional, denominationally unaffiliated
davening community. As of March 2008, the Minyan has approximately 185
member households. We meet for Shabbat morning and holiday services at
Hebrew College in Newton Centre.
Members sign up to lead all services, chant Torah and Haftarah, give
divrei Torah, and take on special organizational and administrative
assignments. All roles are open to both men and women. The Minyan has
no paid professionals or staff. All routine tasks such as setting up
and cleaning up are shared among all members, and responsibilities for
children's services and supervision are shared among members with
children. The Minyan does not have a Hebrew school.
Visitors are welcome. Shabbat morning services begin at 9:30 a.m.
Policy for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur: Due to space constraints
High Holiday Services are limited to members only. We do not sell
tickets, and it is not appropriate to "check out" the minyan during the
Yamim Nora'im. We thank you for respecting this policy.
Non-members are welcome to attend the minyan on any other Shabbat
or holiday. Please email the membership address if you have any
questions.
